Year 8 Rounders Match Report - 3/5/22

The sun has made an appearance, which means it is now rounders season!

Miss Brown took the Year 8 rounders team to their first fixture at Notre Dame, where we faced Eggbuckland Community College. Captain Lucy gave us a good start with winning the toss for us to field first. The girls started off strong with great team spirit and high levels of communication, which led Aimee on second base, and with the help of Heidi who was backing her up, to stump a couple of their batters out.

We also had another great duo on the team working fantastically with each other; Roma back stop and Serafine bowler - the quality and accuracy of these two performers meant that after the 1st innings, Eggy only scored 2 rounders.

It was now our turn to bat, and what a start we made with Serafine hitting the ball so hard it went flying across the field - and Bethany and Aimee also demonstrating big hits to ensure we got the points down, earning 3 rounders to end the first innings.

It was now time for the second innings. The score was close, but we knew as a team we were the better performers, and really needed to put our minds to it to become the winning team. We had Lucy out as a deep fielder, and she was displaying some brilliant lengthy throws to Taylor at 4th base to try and stop them from scoring - but despite some top-quality performances, the opposition managed to score 4 ½ rounders.

The game got even tighter and we needed to score 4 rounders to lead us to victory, and with the team’s hard work and determination, that is exactly what we did. With Roma and Heidi once again, Serafine managing to make brilliant contact with the ball and displaying risky play that resulted to win the game 7- 6 ½!

Well done to Taylor M, Caitlin C-D, Aimee N, Roma S-H, Heidi B, Serafine C, Lucy H, Alexa U, Holly K & Bethany T.

A brilliant effort from everyone. We have only just begun and we can only get better!
