Wellbeing Fridays in Post 16: Take the Biscuit
Post 16 take positive steps to support students' wellbeing.
With mock exams this week and last, stress levels were higher than usual in Post 16 this month. The perfect time for the Post 16 tutor team to introduce wellbeing Fridays. Students are offered a range of wellbeing activities designed to get some positive vibes flowing for the rest of the day. Numerous scientific studies have shown the benefits of social connection and interaction on mental and physical health, so students are asked to put their phones away to encourage them to connect and interact during the activities. Tutors offer a range of activities for students to sign up to, from biscuit making and therapeutic colouring to taking a mental health walk, a singing session and even a "pub quiz".
Emma Osborn, Leader of Post 16, said: "Our students need opportunities to take focused time to do things together that are fun and relaxing, to help them feel calm and positive and reinforce their sense of being a supportive academic community who look out for each other. This in turn helps them to be more focused and productive, and increases their ability to manage stress. It was a real pleasure to see all the students working together on their different activities, chatting and laughing. It was a lovely start to the day. I'm looking forward to seeing what's on offer next week!"
